React Breakthrough — A Little Win

Created:

After spending the past week tinkering, balancing between AI assistance and my own inputs, I can proudly say that react-breakthrough is ready.

It’s not perfect — there are still a few things I want to fix (looking at you, theme selector modal 👀) — but it feels good to finally have something playable and shareable. More importantly, this small project reminded me what it feels like to build again, and it’s been helping me get back on my feet.

This time around, I got to experiment with useReducer (which I hadn’t really used before) and even tried getting Claude to open a pull request through the mobile app. The process was surprisingly smooth, and it was fun seeing this classic game come to life in React.

Even though the game works now, there are still plenty of things I want to explore — adding a simple computer opponent, experimenting with state management libraries like Zustand, and maybe polishing the UI a bit more.

It’s a small project, but it feels like a step forward — and that’s what matters right now.
